Phone a Friend and the microphone
While your child answers a friend, the app uses the speech recognition built into your device. On an iPhone or iPad, Apple processes this. The app receives the words, picks a fixed reply, and then discards them. It never records the call. If you'd rather avoid this, don't allow the microphone: the game then just pauses to give your child time to answer.
The Record the phonics sounds page uses the microphone only while you record, and keeps the recordings on this device.
When a grown-up sends something
- A picture: the picture, the recipient's address and your child's name, if you added it, pass through this app's server on Cloudflare and the email service Resend. The app keeps no copy. Resend may keep delivery records under its own policy.
- Usage: game names and numbers, plus a random tag for the device, are emailed to the people who run the app, to help decide what to build. It contains no names, pictures or recordings.
- Sending needs a send code, which isn't available to the public.
Our website host
The app is hosted by Cloudflare. As with any website, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver the pages. The app itself doesn't read or store it, and its fonts and speech files all come from this site. If you enter the family code, a cookie remembers it for a year so you aren't asked again.
Your choices
- Turn usage counting off, or clear the counts, under What's being played in the 👪 card (hold for 2 seconds).
- Remove people and the send code in the same card.
- To delete everything, remove this site's data in your browser settings, or delete the app from the home screen and clear the site's data.
- Ask us what we hold, or ask us to delete anything you've sent, using the contact address above.
- You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Why we use this information
Keeping progress on your device makes the games work. Usage reports you choose to send help us improve the app. We don't use anything to profile your child or to encourage longer play, and the 👪 card has a play time limit.
